Anees Hilmy has been charged for the rape of the 11-year-old girl in a Guesthouse in Male' City.

Anees was arrested under a court order two days after the complaint was submitted to Maldives Police Service on June 10th. Criminal Court on June 20th ruled to remand him until the end of his trial.

Prosecutor General's Office said that Anees is being charged on three counts after investigating the case of grooming a child and analyzing his phone to discover pornographic content.

He is being charged for touching a child with sexual intent, grooming a child for sexual abuse as well as holding pornographic content.

If he is convicted for the first charge of touching a child with sexual intent a 10-14 year jail sentence will be included in the verdict while if the second charge of grooming a child for sexual abuse is proved he will have a jail sentence of 10 years and for the pornographic content a jail sentence of 1 month and 6 days.
