Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions have passed to dismiss the President along with four other members of the National Integrity Commission (NIC).
NIC was probed with regards to police officers who ran social media campaigns defending other officers for police brutality as well as about the murder of journalist Ahmed Rilwan, by a sub-committee of the Independent Institutions Committee.
During the meeting of the committee today, head of sub-committee MP Hassan Ahmed presented their investigative report on the issue and noted that the NIC had failed to fulfil their legal obligations.
The four members are President Ahmed Sulaiman, Vice President Hassan Hameedh, Member Ahmed Ameen and Member Khadija Abdulla.
MP Mohamed Wisam then moved to submit a motion to the parliament floor, recommending the Speaker of Parliament to dismiss all four members of the Commission who were found negligent.
The motion was passed to be sent to the Parliament after a vote for each member was called indidvidually.
