Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has said that sensitive waste that needs to be destroyed for various reasons would now be handled by the Male’ Transfer Station.

Previously such waste was taken to the WACOM Waste Disposal Site at Thilafushi. According to the company, the change was made due to the challenges in transportation due to the COVID-19 situation.

Types of wate to be handled by the Male’ Transfer Station:

  • Expired foods
  • Spoiled foods
  • Decomposed foods
  • Foods asked to be destroyed by the Maldives Food and Drug Authority
  • Goods asked to be destroyed by other institutes

While WAMCO requires the waste to be brought on vehicles that can carry a load between 350 to 1500 KG, the maximum amount of waste per day per customer is 1500 KG.

And they would be charged MVR 2,700 per ton without tax.
