Maldives Police Service has taken control of Baa Atoll Bodufinolhu island and rescued the 12 Maldivians that were taken hostages on the island by the expatriate workers.
Police said that there were only 12 Maldivians on the island and all are in good health. The rescued hostages are now with officers near the island jetty.
With the police getting on the island, expatriates have starting coming out towards the jetty and started surrendering with no confrontations, according to the police and officers have started a thorough search of the island.
When asked by One Online if the expatriates that came out to the jetty when the police arrived were involved in the initial conflict, police said that they did not take part.
Police Media Official has told One Online that the expatriates agreed to cooperate with the police during the negotiations and they have kept that promise and are following police orders. And there have been no attempts to escape either.
And while the property on the island has been heavily vandalized, all the expatriates that were involved in the hostage taking are now in police custody.
