Maldives Police Service has revealed that the two Maldivian men who were arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a Kenyan woman were not intoxicated.
Speaking during a parliament committee meeting regarding the case, Deputy Commissioner of Police Abdul Mannan Yusuf noted that neither of the two arrested men where intoxicated, and no such reports were recorded by the officers on duty that night. Hence, they had not followed any protocols that need to be followed in such a situation.
Head Chief Superintendent of Hulhumale Police, Mohamed Rasheed the two arrested individuals and the Kenyan woman were first questioned by police officers who were patrolling Hulhumale, after having spotted them nearby the pier around 5:15am that night.
Police also added that the two men who were arrested in connection to the case were released since they did not deem it fit to keep them under custody after taking into account the evidence at hand.
