MP for Nolhivaram constituency, Mohamed Nasheed Abdulla has presented the rape of a foreigner on a safari yacht at Hulhumale’ lagoon, to the parliament floor as an urgent case.

The case was accepted with the votes of 35 members of the present 36 members.

MP Nasheed noted that the way Police had handled the arrest of the two men from the scene of the crime was in such a way that it violated the rights of the victim. He further added that the case was submitted as he does not believe that the police will investigate the case fully due to political influences.

He also highlighted that repeated cases like this are common and that submitting the case would bring these instances to the attention of those who are elected and appointed to serve in the best interest of the public.
