Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Aishath Nahula has said that they are in talks with foreign groups to create and employ seamen and those who worked at super yachts.
She made the remark in her address on the occasion of the Day of the Seafarers being celebrated today.
Minister Nahula said that while the country is dependent on tourism for foreign income, history shows that shipping and seafaring have increase income to the country.
And so, these sectors need to be developed to change the view that they are less important and include a government plan to push forward the Maritime Industries and that work has now begun with the training of 30 navigation officers and 30 engineers.
The Transport Minister said that the introduction of a Seafarers Identity Document is also in the works.
