Tourism Minister, Ali Waheed has said that if things go well, the country can resume to normal in August.

Speaking at the National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) press conference last night, Minister Waheed said that the announcement of the date of reopening borders was delayed intentionally to ensure that all safety measures to bring tourists to the country are in place and to understand extent of the disease in the country.

He said that next month, the government is going to lift major restrictions of the lock down and if things go smoothly, the country can return to normal in August.

Minister Waheed also said that the threat of the illness is not completely gone from the country and the reopening of the border will also add a risk of the it coming from abroad and spreading to other countries through Maldives.
