Tourism Minister Ali Waheed has stated that as the Maldives reopens for tourism on July 15th, about 75 resorts will also resume their operations.

Speaking at the NEOC press conference tonight, Minister Ali Waheed said that 41 resorts had assured that they are ready to reopen in July even before the date was announced to reopen the Maldivian borders for tourism.

He said that a circular would be issued next week for the resorts to confirm with the Ministry the date they would be reopening and hopes that the resorts that wanted to hold off from reopening would open soon as well.

The Maldives is set to reopen its borders and restart the tourism on 15 July 2020. While 150 tourist resorts operate in the country, all of them were closed amid the COVID-19 pandemic which in turn has cost a huge loss to the government income from the tourism sector.
