President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed that a special testing system for COVID-19 is set to be established at the Velana International Airport.

Speaking during a press conference at the President's Office, President Solih said that the borders will be opened for all countries.

He revealed that China has assured that they will not bar any tourists to the Maldives, however noted that they have stipulated that any returning passengers should have a PCR test result that is not older than 120 hours.

He further revealed that China will be establishing a PCR testing system at Velana International Airport, from which up to 1,000 tests could be conducted daily.

While the Maldives prepares to reopen its borders on July 15th, about 500,000 to 600,000 tourists are expected to arrive in the remainder of the year.
