President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that over 40,000 PCR tests have been conducted in the Maldives, making it the highest number in the entire region.

Speaking during a press conference at the President's Office today, President Solih noted that the Maldives has been able to successfully combat the COVID-19 pandemic and that with the hard work of many people, they have been able to establish treatment facilities for COVID-19.

As such he noted that up to 1,000 tests for COVID-19 can be conducted daily and that testing has now begun in Addu City as well. He further added that Kulhudhuffushi City is ready to begin testing in the coming week.

President Solih further noted that the Maldives conducts the highest rate of tests compared to the other countries in the region.

He also said that with the safety steps taken by everyone across the country, Maldives is now gearing for the second phase of new normal with borders being opened for tourism starting July 15th.
