Former Chief Justice of Maldives, Dr. Ahmed Abdulla Didi has said that the disciplinary cases being investigated by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) are attempts to influence judges.
Dr. Ahmed Abdulla Didi took to Twitter saying that the actions of the JSC are in violation of the orders from the Supreme Court.
The former Chief Justice made the remark with reference to the Supreme Court issued on 19 June 2019 and a Facebook post of the Former Chancellor of the Judicial Academy, Ahmed Majid.
After the JSC decision yesterday to investigate another case of the Chief Judge f the Civil Court, Abdulla Ali, the former Chancellor of the Judicial Academy said that Abdulla Ali has served the Maldivian judiciary with integrity for a long time and possesses good discipline.
In his Facebook post, the former Judicial Academy Chancellor said that the case in question is not something that can be investigated through the JSC purview and accused the JSC of making excuses for an inquiry against Judge Abdulla Ali to make the Civil Court the “puppet” of a certain political power.
The Supreme Court order issued on 17 June 2019 following the JSC suspension of former Supreme Court Judge, Abdulla Didi said that as the final authority on the Maldivian judiciary, the decision of the Supreme Court is final and the JSC does not have the authority to question the validity of the decisions made by the courts.
The court order also stated that the JSC action was disrespectful of the Supreme Court and all decisions based on the JSC suspension by the Parliament and law enforcement bodies will be overruled as well.
