Bank of Maldives PLC (BML) has said that the customer card information was leaked from the bank but from trading websites.
A statement issued by the bank last night while rumors hit social media that card information of over 500 customers have been leaked on the dark web.
BML said that the leak did not come from them. They said that that information of 350 customers who has made sales online have been leaked through merchant websites along with card information from banks in other countries.
The bank said that cards with leaked information have now been deactivated and are working on re-issuing the cards to the affected customers. And assured that despite the leak, there will not be any financial loss to the BML customers.
Bank card information leaks are a constant threat across the world that affects millions of people. BML said that they will always protect the information of their customers and all concerns regarding customer information leaks are investigated.
