A seven day remand period has been set for the alleged rapist of the 11-year-old.
Police revealed that the alleged rape of an 11-year-old in a guest house in Male' was first reported to them on June 10th. Police arrested a 38-year-old in connection to this case last night.
Upon presenting him to a remand hearing, a seven day period was set where he is to be detained at a place determined by the Home Minister while the investigation continues.
Earlier in the day, Commissioner of Police has revealed that he has requested an order to remand the alleged rapist of the 11-year old in a Male' Guest House until the end of the trial.
CP Mohamed Hameedh noted that this was the first such request in 5 years.
"Deriving authority from the law on Effecting Special Procedures Against Child Sexual Offenders (12/2009) I have requested the PG Office to apply for an order to have the alleged rapist of the 11-year-old, remanded in custody until the trial outcome. First such request in 5 years," he said in a tweet.
