Another 393 undocumented Bangladeshi workers have been transferred back over two days.

They were transferred to Dhaka, Bangladesh on a flight of the national airline, Maldivian. As such 198 people were transferred yesterday while 195 were transferred today, according to Maldivian.

Over 1,000 undocumented immigrants from Bangladesh have been sent back so far.

While the exact number of undocumented immigrants in the Maldives is unknown, an estimate by official agencies puts the number above 60,000.

With 1,547 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives, 1,006 of them are foreign nationals. Out of that, 806 cases are Bangladeshis.
