The island and city councils have been given the power to give permission to hold sporting events at the islands that have spent 14 days or more since the health monitoring status was lifted byHealth Protection Agency (HPA).
A statement issued by the Ministry of Youth noted that youth were seeking permission to hold sporting events in islands with zero cases of COVID-19 as well as islands that have spent 14 days or more since monitoring status has been lifted. Hence the Ministry had sought to advise from the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) and HPA to reach a decision on the matter.
As such, the Ministry noted that neither the TAG Team nor the HPA had any problems against allowing island councils to grant permission to conduct such sporting events in said islands.
However, both parties have said that they will not encourage the conduction of sporting events that will draw out crowds and that they encourage social distancing during this time as well.
The Ministry further noted that even though the permission is being granted right now, it may be taken away in the future depending on the situation.
