President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced that rent on all lands leased by the Ministry of Finance has been postponed by six months.
Addressing the nation regarding the COVID-19 Pandemic, President Solih revealed that the government has decided to postpone the rent of islands leases for farming as well as all lands leased by the Ministry of Finance by six months.
He also added that land rent for resorts for the last six months of the year will be postponed as well to provide them ease during the difficult time and to help foster the reopening of the hospitality industry.
During his remarks, the President outlined the Government’s plans for gradually easing the restrictive measures it has taken in response to the pandemic. These plans encompass gradually easing the lockdown in the Greater Male’ Region; allowing businesses to resume normal operations; reopening schools; and resuming communal prayer in islands where there are no COVID-19 cases.
The President also remarked that the country could open its borders as early as July.
This gradual loosening of restrictions, he remarked, will occur in consultation with health authorities and will depend on the authorities’ confidence in the success of existing precautions.
