Maldives on Saturday announced that an infant has tested positive for COVID-19.

Speaking at the NEOC press conference, Medical Officer at the Health Protection Agency (HPA), Dr. Nazla Rafeeq said that the infant less than a month-old tested positive after coming in contact with a person who has tested positive.

She said that infant was tested after confirming contact with a person who tested positive and also because the infant started showing some symptoms. And so, the infant’s mother is also being tested.

While Dr. Nazla has not reveal whether the child was tested in Male’ City, this is the youngest case of COVID-19 reported in the Maldives. Previously, the youngest person was a seven-month old child.
