President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has thanked the neighboring India for their help and assistance to the Maldives during the ongoing global pandemic.

Taking to Twitter today, President Solih said that India has been a true friend to Maldives and India’s recent gift of essential food supplies is particularly helpful during these challenging times.

In his tweet, President Solih expressed his gratitude to the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India for their friendship and generosity.

The President sent out the tweet after an Indian naval vessel arrived in the Maldives with 580 tons of aid.

The aid from India that arrived today include 200 tons of rice, 140 tons of flour, 90 tons of sugar, 120 tons of dal grain, 26 tons of onion and 14 tons of potatoes according to the Indian High Commission in the Maldives.

Indian High Commission said that the food aid is a gift from the Indian people to the people of Maldives during the holy month of Ramadan as a symbol of friendship between the two countries.
