Dr. Sheena Moosa has stated that the current situation estimates about 900 COVID-19 deaths in the Maldives.

Speaking at the National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) press conference tonight, Dr. Sheena said that when the disease began spreading, it was estimated that 2000 fatalities but the number has been reduced significantly.

Dr. Sheena said that projections show that the epidemic will hit its peak on 31 May 2020 with 1500 cases on the day and 6800 people seeking treatment.

She said that an estimated 13,500 people will be hospitalized during the epidemic in the country while 77,000 infections.

Dr. Sheena said that during the peak, 100 people would have to be treated in the ICU with a total of 5800 people treated in the ICU altogether according to projections.
