National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) Spokesperson Mabrouk Azeez has revealed that the pregnant woman who tested positive to COVID-19 earlier today is asymptomatic and that she was admitted at IGMH two days ago.
Speaking at the NEOC press conference, Spokesperson Mabrook said that the woman was asymptomatic when a sample was collected for testing and has been transferred to Treetop hospital after being confirmed positive for the illness.
This is the third pregnant woman to test positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives with the previous two cases are from Male’ City and Shaviyani Atoll Narudhoo.
Pregnant women are an at-risk group for COVID-19 along with the elderly, people with chronic illnesses and children under the age of five.
So far, over 600 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives with 20 recoveries while two people have died; an 83-year-old Maldivian woman and a 33-year-old Bangladeshi national.
