Health Minister Abdulla Ameen has said that they are current working to slow down the rate of infection of COVID-19 in the Maldives.

The Minister said this while speaking during a press conference at the National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) today. He said that the first thing you do in a lockdown is restricting movement, which in turn ensures that the virus does not travel far from where an infected person resides in.

The Minister stressed that the virus is already in the community and that many others will test positive but noted that the biggest priority should be given to flattening the curve or the rate of infections.

He also highlighted that all the residents of the capital city are highly likely to catch the virus hence taking all precautionary measures is extremely important.
