National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) Spokesperson Mabrouq Azeez has revealed that currently there are two doctors for every 1,000 people along with seven nurses.

Speaking during a press conference tonight at the NEOC, Mabrouq noted that there are 905 doctors and 2,970 nurses in the Maldives. However, the numbers can be increased with the addition of medical students who are returning from abroad.

Mabrouq further added that judging by the rate of spread of COVID-19 in the Maldives, a shortage of doctors and nurses in the near future are very likely. As such he noted that for every 1,000 person there is 2 doctors as of now.

He also added that if everyone complied with the lockdown, the number of infections will be low enough for the Maldivian healthcare system to handle.
