State Minister at the Home Ministry, Ali Nazeer has said that the prison officers displayed professional conduct in controlling the attempted riot at Maafushi Prison last night.

A confrontation took place between the inmates and the guards last night when Unit 9 was opened for the dinner meal.

In a tweet sent out following the incident, State minister Nazeer said that the officers handled the situation more professionally than before. However, it would be clearer after reviewing the Incident Report and the report for the Use of Force review committee.

Correctional Service said that two officers and an inmate was injured in the incident last night. Following the incident, Commissioner of Prisons, Ahmed Mohamedfulhu and the Home Minister, Imran Abdulla visited the prison.
