Dr. Ibrahim Afzal has stated that the high number of contacts make it difficult to identify Case 21’s source of infection.

Speaking during a press conference at the National Emergency Operation Center, Dr Afzal said that 207 contacts of the first patient to test positive to Covid-19 in the capital city have been identified so far. The doctor stressed that the high number of contacts make it harder to trace the index case.

Dr Afzal further noted that the lifestyle of all Maldivians needed a major change in such a critical situation. As such, he had advised to halt activities such as picnics and fishing trips, going outdoors for no valid reason across the nation.

Authorities are yet to identify the index case. All three who tested positive are currently stable and being treated at Farukolhufushi.
