National airline, Maldivian is preparing to air lift 12.8 tonnes of cargo to neighbouring Sri Lanka.

"A total of 12.8 tonnes cargo are ready for departure to Colombo. 8.9 tonnes of care packages to locals in SriLanka by their families together with other regular cargo," Maldivian revealed through a tweet on Sunday.

Many Maldivians have faced shortage of foods as they have been unable to get any after the lockdown in Sri Lanka over the Covid-19 pandemic. Government arranged means to send them care packages to ease their situation.

Following that, many had registered to send care packages at the Maldivian City Check-in at Greater Male Bus Stop.
