Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer has revealed that the government will be issuing special allowances to everyone who loses their jobs amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking at the National Emergency Operation Center press conference, the Finance Minister said that the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the Maldivian economy and there are numerous complaints of people losing jobs. And said that it is important that those people register at the job center.

He said that the government has decided to give an allowance for three months for those losing their jobs among the pandemic.

However, the exact figure of the allowance was not disclosed by the minister but announced that it would be announced within a week.

The tourism sector in the Maldives have been severely impacted by the pandemic and some employees are being forced in to no-pay leave from their employers.
