After returning from a personal visit to the UK on 19 March, the Speaker of the Parliament, the former President of Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed is set to be tested for COVID-19 Corona Virus.
The testing is to take place as the contact tracing and screening are underway after three Maldivians who returned to the country from the UK have tested positive for the illness.
A statement issued by the parliament administration yesterday said that the Speaker of the Parliament was in UK from 11 to 14 March on a personal visit. The statement said that testing people returning from the UK was not yet implemented when the former President traveled and no health advisory was issued at the time.
Speaking at the National Emergency Center press conference yesterday, Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Abdul Aziz has said that everyone who returned to the Maldives between 14 and 19 March will be tested for COVID-19.
The government of Maldives has decided to quarantine every Maldivian arriving the country from 21 March on wards for a period of 14 days. The government has also decided to test everyone in quarantine for COVID-19 before releasing.
