Government has decided to test all quarantined patients for Covid-19, before being discharged after completing their 14 day quarantine period.

Speaking during a press conference on Sunday, IGMH doctor Ali Latheef said that changes have been brought to the Quick Reference Guideline and that all patients who complete their 14 day quarantine period will be tested for Covid-19 at the end.

The decision to test all quarantined patients come after two Italians who completed the quarantine in Maldives and departed afterwards tested positive to Covid-19.

According to Dr. Ali, SOPs around the world and the Maldives are based off on new cases since Covid-19 is a never seen before disease.

As of now there are 17 confirmed cases in the Maldives while 11 of them have recovered and 2 departed to Italy and tested positive afterwards. The positive cases also include two Maldivians who recently returned from the UK.
