Covid-19 Spokesperson Mabrouq Azeez has said that it was questionable whether the alleged Maldivian patient who tested positive to Covid-19 in the UAE is indeed a Maldivian, even though the UAE reports so.

Speaking during a press conference on Saturday, Mabrouq noted that the name of the alleged positive case in UAE is an Eastern European Name, and that he believes that the individual might be someone from a country like Moldova which has a similar name to the Maldives.

Hence based on the information on hand, Mabrouq stressed that it was questionable whether the patient in question is a Maldivian or not.

While 16 cases of Covid-19 has been reported in Maldives, 11 have recovered and 3 are receiving treatment in the Maldives. The other 2 patients are two Italians who tested positive after departing the country.
