Government shutdown extended by an additional week

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced that the government shutdown will continue for an additional week.

The decision to close all government offices was taken as part of the measures taken to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the Maldives.

Speaking during a press conference today, President Solih said that all measures are taken after expert opinions by health professionals. He stressed that they will remain the first and last decision makers in anything related to the pandemic.

President Solih noted that even though some of these measures are a inconvenience to the public, they have been taken to safeguard all citizens. As such, the government offices will be shutdown for another week starting next Sunday.

In addition to this, all schools, colleges and universities are also going to be closed for an additional week.
