All doctors in the Maldives are to be trained for critical care amid the Covid-19 global pandemic.

Speaking during a press conference at the National Emergency Operation Center, Dr Moosa Hussain noted that 15 percent of Covid-19 patients experience serious symptoms which can be tended to by those trained in critical care.

He revealed that the planning has already concluded and that trainings will kick off on Saturday. The planning process included a Critical Care Specialist from the South African doctors team as well as American nurses and specialists from the Maldives.

One of the main reasons why the need to train doctors as explained by Dr Moosa was because they did not want Maldives to reflect a situation where the elderly are discharged by hospitals during a mass outbreak like the current situation of Italy.

He added that even though there aren't many critical care specialists in the Maldives, all resources will be used well to train more.
