Covid-19: Travel between local islands and resorts banned

Health Protection Agency has announced that under the State of Public Health Emergency, Director General of Public Health has banned any travels from resorts to inhabited islands, and from inhabitated islands to resorts.

This will come to effect from 18:00 hours today and will be effective for total of 14 days. The decision was announced by the HPA on Saturday through a press release issued on Twitter.

This is a step taken under the powers granted to the DG of Public Health during a Public Health Emergency, as a cautionary step in the containment of Covid-19.

So far there are 10 positive cases of Covid-19 in the Maldives. All of these are foreign nationals. These includes tourists as well as workers from the resorts they have stayed at.

Five of these cases are from Kuredu Island Resort, two from Sandies Bathala Island Resort and Kuramathi Maldives and one from Anantara Dhigu Maldives.
