Health Protection Agency has announced that under the Public Health Emergency, the Director General of Public Health has banned tourists from checking into a City Hotel or Guesthouse within the Greater Male' Area.

The ban will come into effect 00:00 tonight and will last for 14 days.

Guests who are already checked into such a Hotel or Guesthouse can stay for the remainder of their booking.

The decision was announced by the HPA on Saturday through a press release issued on Twitter.

This is a step taken under the powers granted to the DG of Public Health during a Public Health Emergency, as a cautionary step in the containment of Covid-19.

In addition to this, travels from resorts to inhabited islands, and from inhabitated islands to resorts have been banned while all colleges, universities and educational centers have been ordered to close for the next 14 days.
