Government has decided to keep schools closed for an additional week.
The government's decision comes at a time when several doctors and organisations had recommended closing down schools before they reopen after midterms coming Sunday.
Speaking during a press conference tonight, state spokesperson for Covid-19 Mabrook Azeez noted that the government was getting ready for a situation where schools had to be shut down. Online teaching or broadcasting lessons are some of the contingencies that the government is thinking about and actively working on as well.
Mabrook noted that for the time being schools will be closed for an additional week, with further decisions on the matter depending on how the situation of Covid-19 in the Maldives changes.
As per the government's strategic action plan, schools will be shut down in areas where an Orange or Red Alert has been declared. However, there are no inhabited islands in such a state as of yet.
So far there are eight confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the Maldives.
