State spokesperson for Covid-19 Mabrook Azeez has said that action will be taken against anyone found negligent of Covid-19 spread in the Maldives, regardless of their rank.
Mabrook made the statement while speaking during a press conference held tonight, in response to a question whether President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih aims to sack Tourism Minister Ali Waheed and Health Minister Abdulla Ameen from the task force formed regarding Covid-19.
The question was with regards to the Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem's request to the Police on a criminal investigation into why the details of the Italian tourist was withheld from investigative bodies.
Mabrook reiterated that the government is working for the betterment of all citizens and noted that action will be taken against whoever is negligent in the case of the Italian tourist traveling while sick, no matter their rank.
Speaking to "One", PG Shameem noted that there are reports of a negligent party in the case of the spread of Covid-19 in Maldives through an Italian tourist, and that a request for investigation has been made since it was a rather serious matter.
While PG Shameem has requested a probe, serious allegations are being levied in the case of the Italian tourist who had departed the Maldives while being sick. As such, reports claim that he had consulted the doctor several times after being sick and was initially unable to fly after arriving at the airport for being too sick. Other reports also claim that he had shown symptoms of Covid-19 and was treated after admitting at the resort as well.
The man had also stayed at Maagiri Hotel on March 1st and March 2nd. Details of those who met him during this period are currently being investigated.
15 employees who had come into contact with him from Maagiri Hotel have been isolated while a Maldivian employee of Universal who was the ticketing agent for the man has been isolated after showing symptoms.
