State spokesperson for Covid-19, Mabrook Azeez has confirmed that the Italian tourist who tested positive for Covid-19 after his holiday in Kuredu Island Resort had stayed at Maagiri Hotel for a total of two days before his departure back to Italy.
Mabrook confirmed that the tourist had stayed at Maagiri Hotel for two days while speaking during a press conference held today. He noted tha the tourist stayed at the hotel on March 1st and March 2nd after unable to departure back to Italy initially.
Mabrook added that 15 employees from the hotel who came into close contact with the man has since been isolated though they have not shown any symptoms as of yet.
He further added that the ticketing agent at Universal through whom the Italian tourist purchased his tickets have shown symptoms and is now being quarantined at Farukolhufushi. Mabrook confirmed that the Universal employee is a Maldivian.
Mabrook noted that the Maldivian employee will be tested for Covid-19 today.
There are so far four confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the Maldives. The first two cases were reported from Kuredu Island Resort where the Italian tourist had stayed. Two foreign workers in the resort had contracted the virus from the tourist. The other two confirmed cases are two Italian tourists who were staying in Bathala Resort.
