A 30 room isolation facility has been established in Vilivaru, where Coronavirus patients are to be quarantined.

Speaking during a press conference, Tourism Minister Ali Waheed noted that anyone can be quarantined in the 30 room isolation facility in Vilivaru.

He highlighted that it took 10 days starting February 01st to establish the center and added that MVR 2.1 million spent on the construction itself.

The Minister added that Vilivaru is 30 minutes from capital Male' City, and that the isolation center has been designed in such a way that it can accommodate tents should the situation escalate to such a point.

Minister Ali Waheed noted that the island was previously with Athama, and is currently with Mohamed Ali Janah. However, with respect to a clause in the agreement, the island is now being used by the state for a period of one month. This, according to him is up for negotiations on possible extensions.

The Minister further stressed that alongside Vilivaru, another resort with 100 rooms that is no longer in operation is being converted into an isolation facility.
