Maldives on Saturday reported the first two confirmed cases of the Coronavirus in the island nation.

Health Minister Abdulla Ameen confirmed the news during a press conference. He revealed that two people who were tested for the virus from Kuredu Island Resort had tested positive.

The two infected are foreign workers in the island resort.

The Minister further added that the nationalities of the two will not be disclosed as per the rules and regulations regarding the situation.

He further revealed that the two are in good condition as of now.

Speaking during the press, Tourism Minister Ali Waheed highlighted that after these two confirmed cases the alert level in the Maldives has now been brought to yellow. While Kuredu Island Resort has been declared an orange alert since a tourist outside the Maldives had travelled to and infected two persons in the island.

Minister Ali Waheed stressed that this was not the time to panic but time to practice good hygiene and to work together against it.

He had appealed all resort managements to act as per the instructions given out by the HPA and the government during this situation.
