Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid met with Minister for Foreign Affairs II of Brunei Darussalam, Dato Seri Setia Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof, this morning during his official visit to Brunei.

During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brunei, the Ministers discussed various aspects of the bilateral relations between the two countries, including instituting a Ministry to Ministry level cooperation agreement to help reinvigorate cooperation between the two countries.

Minister Shahid expressed the appreciation of the Government of Maldives for the scholarships that have been provided by the Government of Brunei and explored the possibilities for additional scholarship opportunities for Maldivian students. Minister Shahid also noted the great importance the Government attaches to support and educate people with special needs and developing the social sector of the Maldives.

Minister Shahid stated the importance of establishing a halal science laboratory in the Maldives and requested Brunei’s assistance in the field.

Minister also noted his confidence that both the Maldives and Brunei will continue to work together on international issues of mutual concern.
