Progressive Coalition has revealed that they have decided to suspend their campaign trail amidst the growing fears of Covid-19 Coronavirus in the Maldives.
A press statement issued by the coalition noted that their decision was made largely due to the fact that a possible outbreak will cause major losses to the Maldivian people. They had also assured that the safety of all citizens would be their first priority at any given moment.
In their statement, the coalition had also called upon the government to relay all information and latest developments regarding the virus in a timely manner to all citizens. They had also called on the government to take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of all Maldivians.
Parties are currently on campaign trails visiting several atolls and islands in order to lobby support for the upcoming Local Council Elections scheduled for April. However, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) had appealed not to carry out events with large number of crowd gatherings.
