Planning Ministry has revealed that the proposed bridge linking Male' and Thilafushi will be built with the financial aid of India.
During the signing ceremony for the ground investigation of the bridge, State Minister for the Planning Ministry Akram Kamaaluddin said that even though the Indian government is going to help finance the bridge, it is as of yet unclear the exact amount that they are willing to invest.
However he noted that discussions regarding the project is going on between both the governments and noted that in such a case where a loan is granted by another country, companies from the giving country are used in said projects.
MVR 411 million has been budgeted for the construction of the bridge, for which the field work is set to begin within the ongoing year according to the President. The government had previously estimated that a whopping MVR 7.5 billion will be spent for the project.
