Education Ministry has ordered all schools across the country halt any and all extra-curricular activities amidst the spread of Novel Coronavirus in various parts of the world.
The Ministry made the announcement in a circular signed by Minister Aishath Ali on Sunday.
The circular also noted the recent Measles cases in the Maldives and the efforts of the government to contain the situation amidst the spread of it. Several students had also tested positive to Measles. The Ministry further added that the decision to halt all extra-curricular activities was taken after being advised by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) on long-term preventive measures for students in the event of a Coronavirus outbreak in the island nation.
The Ministry stressed that they will continue to seek advise from the HPA as well as obey all guidelines set by the task force formed to alleviate any effects of Coronavirus.
They highlighted that in the event schools needed closure due to the spread of Coronavirus, an announcement will be made after consulting the HPA. The decision to halt extra-curricular activities will be in place starting today till the 20th of May.
The notice extends to field trips, practice sessions and sports activities in addition to social events with large number of students, volunteer work and any activities that are to take place outside school grounds. The circular also noted to halt all activities planned for March, April and May in the 2020 activity calendar alongside any school fairs, overnight camps and concerts.
