Covid-19: Maldives to temporarily halt cruise ship arrivals

Maldivian government has decided to temporarily halt the arrival of cruise ships to the Maldives, over the current situation of the Wuhan Coronavirus.

Health Minister Abdulla Ameen made the announcement during a press conference held at the President's Office.

The Minister stressed that the Maldives is practicing a rigid screening system for all arrivals through all entryways, and added that all entrants are scanned with a thermal camera.

In addition to this, porting permissions to cruise ships are given only after checking travel records as well as passenger records for the particular ship for at least 14 days.

Explaining the decision to temporarily halt cruise ship arrival, Minister Ameen noted that the government did not want to take any risks since cruise ships port at different countries and poses a great platform of a virus outbreak if even one case is confirmed aboard such a vessel.

Ameen further noted that the temporary ban will be lifted after reviewing the situation of the Coronavirus.
