Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has denied the rumors of an MNDF officer who was arrested for sexually assaulting a child.

A rumor has been spreading on social media that an officer of MNDF was arrested today at a guesthouse in Male’ City for an attempt to sexually assault a minor.

MNDF has denied the rumors stating that no such event happened and has not released any information regarding such an event.

Talking to One Online, Information Officer of MNDF, Ibrahim Azim said that the MNDF has not received any reports of such an arrest.

Media Officer of the Maldives Police Service said that no such incident has been reported to the police and the rumors of arresting an MNDF officer is a lie.

MNDF has previously said that if anyone reports that an officer of MNDF was involved in a heinous crime such as sexually assaulting a child, they will investigate immediately.

In January, police arrested an MNDF officer for blackmail and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old.
