Opposition party, PPM, has nominated the President of the Volleyball Association of Maldives, Mohamed Latheef, for the Addu City Mayor on the party ticket at the upcoming Local Council Election.

Latheef confirmed today that he would be submitting his candidacy to the Elections Commission. He said that the decision to run for Mayor of Addu was made since the city has not seen sufficient development despite its resources.

The MDP ticket for the Addu City Mayor in the Local Council Election was secured by the former MP for South Hithadhoo constituency, Ali Nizaaru after the winning the MDP primary for the party ticket against Ahmed Aduham and Abdulla Soadiq; who has served as the Mayor of Addu City for the past nine years.

Local Council Election set for 4 April 2020 will see the two largest political parties in the country running for all seats in the Islands, Atoll and City Councils.
