Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has said that the new cases of the Wuhan Coronavirus in China has been on a decline and that the recovery rate has been increasing greatly.

Speaker Nasheed made the remarks while sharing highlights of his meeting with Chinese Ambassador, Zhang Lizhong.

Nasheed noted that the Chinese Ambassador shared minute details regarding the Coronavirus. As such, he noted that the Ambassador had stressed on low mortality rates of the virus and that the number of new cases from mainland China has been on a decline. Nasheed also added that the Ambassador had revealed that the number of successful recoveries have been greatly increasing.

In light of the statistics provided by the Ambassador, Speaker Nasheed noted that the mortality rate in China from the virus is at 2 per cent while the mortality rate across the globe is only 0.1 per cent. He stressed that the mortality rate for common flu stood at 1 per cent in a stark contrast.

He further added that this was a time where everyone should treat China kindly instead of singling them out.
