Ministry of Tourism has revealed that tourist arrivals in January 2020 saw a 14.3 per cent increase when compared to the same period last year.

Statistics released by Tourism Ministry noted that during this period, a total of 177,140 tourist arrivals were recorded. These are 173,347 tourists who arrived through air with 3,793 who arrived through a sea route.

154,969 tourist arrivals were recorded in January 2019. These are 151,552 tourists who arrived through air with 3,417 who arrived through a sea route.

Top market during the month was Europe with 54.6 per cent of total arrivals. Total tourist arrivals from the region stood at 94,725, which was a 13.4 per cent increase compared to the same period last year. Asia-Pacific region was the second top market with 35.6 per cent of total arrivals. This was 61,688 tourist arrivals.

This is a 11.9 per cent in crease in comparison to the same period.
