Speaker of Parliament and President of MDP, Mohamed Nasheed has said that his party will win the upcoming Local Council Election with a major difference.
President Nasheed made the remarks during an event held to kick off campaign activities by majority ruling party, MDP. He added that MDP has been brining major changes to decentralisation laws in time for the election.
He noted that these changes are a part of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's presidential pledges and that they are also part of the "Agenda 19" campaign of MDP.
President Nasheed highlighted that with the changes to the laws and budget allocated to local councils, their working methods would be subject to major changes as well.
He further noted that these changes would be properly reflected only when a council with the same ideology and thinking as the state is elected.
The Local Council Elections are scheduled for April 4th.
