Prosecutor General’s Office has sent to the Criminal Court go prosecute the rapists of the 2-year-old child from Gaafu Alif Atoll Kanduhulhudhoo.

The child’s grandfather and great-grandfather are the accused in this case.

In a tweet, PG Hussain Shameem noted that the two are being charged for sexually abusing a child family member.

The child’s grandfather and grand-father have been arrested for sexually abusing her while her father was arrested too, but is being charged for negligence instead.

In a press conference yesterday, Shameem noted that they had decided to prosecute those who are negligent in such cases as well. He had also expressed his opinion that trials of sensitive subjects like rape should be concluded within the span of three or so days as well.

The child in question was living with her parents who are addicts, in the same household where her abusers had resided in. Both of them have had previous allegations of child sexual abuse as well.
